Founder & Head Coach

A native of the DC Metro Area, Coach Vergara enters his 9th season as a coach. He debuted his coaching career in 2010 as a volunteer for Bishop Ireton HS, his alma mater, prior to signing on with St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School in January 2011. He remained with the Saints until February 2012. He transitioned from the VISAA to the VHSL with Thomas A. Edison HS. He served as the technician for the Eagles from 2012-2016. In the Summer of 2016, Bishop O'Connell HS announced his hiring as the head wrestling coach of their storied program: 8x conference champions; 6x state champions; 53 individual state champions; and 31 All-Americans.

  • VHSL 5A North Regional Champions - 4
  • VHSL 5A State Medalists - 8
  • VHSL 5A State Champions - 2
  • VISAA State Medalists - 12
  • National Prep Qualifiers - 12
  • Super 32 All-Americans - 1

As an athlete, Coach Vergara wrestled for Longwood University, which competed in the Mid-Atlantic Conference of the NCWA. He represented the Lancers at 133 lbs. at the MAC championship and earned 3 automatic bids to the NCWA National Championship - the first and only Lancer to do so. Additionally, he earned two 3rd place finishes at the Apprentice School Invitational in as many trips. In high school, Vergara first stepped on the mat as a sophomore and ended up a two-time varsity starter for Bishop Ireton HS. His accolades include a 6th place (140 lbs) finish at the Northern Region Classic, two 3rd place finishes (140/145 lbs) in the WCAC and one 6th place finish (145 lbs) at VISAA States.

Coach Vergara's vocation is teaching ESOL for FCPS. He resides in Alexandria, VA with his wife.
